Gaining my Permaculture Design Certificate: An Immersion into Permaculture Principles, Design Systems and Practical Applications

On Saturday along with 20 others, I completed my two week long, intensive Permaculture Design Course (PDC) through Milkwood Permaculture in Kangaroo Valley, NSW.

Permaculture is a design system that was invented by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in the 1970’s and is based on the ethics of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share. Permaculture aims to work with, rather than against nature to create holistic and abundant ways of living.

Over the fortnight, we touched on a multitude of topics including: food diversity, aquaponics, alternative economics, mushroom cultivation, permaculture livelihoods, energy descent, seed politics and natural building.

During this time we also completed both an individual design and a group design in which we worked through the design process applying the permaculture ethics and principles to ensure that our designs maximised the natural assets of the land and minimised harm to the environment and its ecosystems.

This was honestly one of the most inspiring, practical and informative courses that I have ever undertaken and I have come away with an incredible knowledge bank, renewed motivation and many new friends.

A huge thank you to all of my fellow participants and everyone involved at Milkwood Permaculture. I cannot recommend this course highly enough!
